BSc Nursing Studies Registered Nurse Mental Health Nursing

Course Overview

This programme runs for a period of three years and prepares students to become Registered Nurses in Mental Health Nursing, meeting the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The programme is structured to be 50% theory and 50% practical, allowing students to combine education with clinical placements in partnership with the NHS trusts. A team of healthcare professionals and researchers will teach the students.

In the first year, students will learn the basics of mental health nursing, and in the second year, focus on caring for people with mental health issues, and work with professionals to learn communication and how to assess patients. By the third year, they will learn leadership skills, crisis management and understand how different factors impact patient care.

Students will learn through lectures, seminars, online study, and practical classes held in the University's modern Clinical Simulation Centre. Students will be assessed through written coursework, examinations, presentations, case studies, and practical assessments, such as Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). After the programme, students will have the necessary academic requirements for professional registration.
