Course overview

The BSc Media and Communication with Foundation Year and placement at the University of Surrey is designed to help students develop the skills required for progression to the main degree in media and communication. The professional training placement offers students the opportunity to acquire professional experience through the university’s partnership with relevant industries.

Students will learn in areas including media power and regulations, media audiences and users, public relations, global media and communications, big data and digital societies. The course also explores how communication impacts society, government, and business, producing digitally confident, critical, and creative thinkers in a globalised digital media world.

The methods of teaching include small group tutorials, projects and workshops, as well as lectures and classes. Assessment includes a combination of examination, coursework, practical examinations, reports and a compulsory research project in a chosen subject in the final year.

Entry requirements

  • Other qualifications, such as Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (MMM) and Access to HE Diplomas, are also considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants are required to have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 in Writing and a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
  • Other equivalent qualifications, such as PTE, TOEFL, or Duolingo English Test, are also accepted.
