MSc Cybersecurity

Course Overview

This Master's degree offers excellent preparation for the growing cybersecurity sector, focusing on both technical and organisational skills to create secure systems. It covers topics like network security, cybersecurity in organisations, applications of cryptography, and secure and defensive programming.

The course is 100% coursework-based with no exams. Learning involves lectures, seminars, and practical work, using the latest forensic analysis tools. Assessment methods include written reports, practical assignments, and a Computing Master's Project.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a second-class undergraduate degree (2:2) or above in a computing subject.
  • Alternatively, a degree with a 2:1 or above in a relevant non-computing discipline, such as mathematics, statistics, or engineering, will be acceptable.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must score 6.5 overall in the IELTS (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component: reading, writing, listening, and speaking) or submit equivalent test scores.

Cost of Study

The full-time fee for international students is £17,000 per year.

Scholarships

The University of Sunderland supports international Master's students with the Global Leaders Scholarship, which is an automatically applied £4,500 reduction on the course tuition fee for eligible applicants.

In addition to this internal support, students can seek major external funding. These awards include the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, which covers tuition, living costs, and travel for one-year degrees, and the Commonwealth Master's Scholarships, offering similar comprehensive support for students from Commonwealth countries.

The Tuk-Tam Scholarship is also available, providing up to £9,000 for Bulgarian students planning to use their qualifications back home.
