LLM Commercial Law and International Trade

Course Overview

The LLM Commercial Law and International Trade at the University of Sunderland is designed for individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree and wish to specialise in business and international trade law. This programme helps students develop key professional competencies such as Advanced Legal Skills and a strong understanding of law from an international perspective.

The course combines classroom-based learning with independent research. Students attend weekly three-hour seminars that are highly interactive and require thorough preparation. As a Master’s programme, it encourages a greater degree of independent study and self-directed learning compared to undergraduate study.

For the final research project, known as the dissertation, each student is assigned an academic supervisor for guidance. Students can choose a dissertation topic aligned with their interests, ensuring an engaging and relevant research experience. Assessment is primarily through written essays — typically one 5,000-word essay per module. Completing this LLM will strengthen students’ career prospects in global business, international law, and legal consultancy roles.
