BSc Clinical Psychology
Course overview
The BSc Clinical Psychology at the University of Sunderland is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). This programme introduces students to key areas of psychology, including biological, cognitive, and social concepts, while placing a strong emphasis on mental health, patient care, and ethical practice. Students will explore essential topics such as psychological assessment, diagnosis, and formulation.
Graduates who achieve a 2:2 or higher degree classification will qualify for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS — a crucial step towards becoming a professional psychologist. The first year of study is shared with other psychology programmes, giving students flexibility to change their area of interest if they wish.
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, workshops, and one-to-one or group tutorials. Assessment formats range from essays and exams to scientific reports, presentations, and clinical formulation writing.
