MSc Nanoscience

Course Overview

This postgraduate course brings together knowledge from physics, chemistry, and other scientific fields. It is designed for physical science graduates and allows students to examine the tiny building blocks of the world and the new ideas and technology behind them. The programme involves six months of learning in the classroom, followed by three months of work on a research project.

The programme Modules cover Introductory Nanoscience, Physics Skills, and Nanochemistry. Students are taught using lectures, tutorials, workshops, and lab experiments. They are assessed through written examinations and continuous coursework, with an oral examination for some modules. The final project is assessed by a detailed report, a presentation, and a viva.

About University

The University of Strathclyde, founded in 1796, is located in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland's largest city. Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Candidates need to submit a personal statement and relevant information regarding their studies, an academic and/or employer reference, and their CVs to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates need a 2:2 or above or an international equivalent degree in physics, chemistry or a similar subject.
  • Candidates with an engineering degree will be considered if they have enough exposure to fundamental physics, e.g quantum mechanics or electromagnetism.

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates should submit an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS test, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section.
  • PTE Academic, Cambridge and TOEFL IBT are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The international students’ tuition fee for the MSc Nanoscience programme at the University of Strathclyde is £28,700. Note that this is subject to change yearly.

Scholarships

The University of Strathclyde offers various scholarships to help international students fund their master's degrees. Strathclyde University offers a scholarship of up to £12,000 for some students and a 15% tuition fee discount for its own graduates who are pursuing another postgraduate course. These scholarships can reduce the financial burden of studying abroad. Some students may receive awards ranging from £9,000 to £12,000, while others might be eligible for automatic scholarships worth £6,000 to £8,000 simply by applying for postgraduate courses. Students from Commonwealth countries have additional opportunities through partnerships with the university. Also, industries sponsor scholarships, and they are available to international students, which can also lead to internship opportunities.
