MSc Forensic Science

The University of Strathclyde MSc Forensic Science prepares you for roles as forensic scientists by equipping you with practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and investigative thinking. The course also offers you a unique experience by blending research-led teaching with intensive case-based learning.

A major part of the course is a practical crime scene investigation and courtroom exercise, conducted in partnership with the Law School. Students can choose to specialise in either forensic biology or forensic chemistry. Students’ progress in this course will be assessed through written coursework, laboratory reports, case files, oral presentations, and a three-month research project, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of expertise.

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement, a relevant academic and/or employer reference, and their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants need a second-class (2:2) Honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a science subject such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or pharmacy.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5, with no individual component score below 5.5, or submit equivalent test scores.

The annual tuition fee for international students on the MSc Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde is £32,350.

The university offers a large range of scholarships to assist students with course funding. The department also provides travel scholarships to support eligible students who are required to travel for their three-month research project.
