MA Interior Architecture and Design

This MA Interior Architecture and Design programme at the University of Lincoln is for graduates of art, architecture, and design who wish to specialise in creative approaches to interior design. The design studio functions as a simulated interior architecture and design consultancy, facilitating project-based learning. Students operate as design associates, adhering to established firm ethos, knowledge base, culture, documentation standards, and design approaches, all under the guidance of a management team. 

The programme offers two pathways: Treatise by Practice and Treatise by Research, both structured to facilitate progression to employment in interior consultancies or advanced doctoral studies.

Learning and assessment within the MA Interior Architecture and Design programme are centred around project-based learning in a studio environment that simulates professional practice. Students develop their design skills and critical thinking through a series of projects, culminating in a final major project. Assessment methods include project submissions, presentations, and written assignments.

Candidates are required to demonstrate their suitability for the programme through their previous academic achievements and/or professional experience. Applicants are encouraged to submit a personal statement outlining their motivations for applying to the MA Interior Architecture and Design programme and detailing other pertinent information related to their academic background and design interests. While not mandatory, students have the option to include their CVs with their application to provide evidence of their professional experience.

Grade Requirements

Applicants typically need to hold a first or second-class honours degree, or an equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject area.

English Proficiency

International students whose first language is not English will need to have an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. English language proficiency equivalent such as PTE, TOEFL or SELT is accepted.

For international students, the tuition fee for the MA Interior Architecture and Design programme is £17,600.

The University of Lincoln offers a range of scholarships for both UK and international students, recognising academic merit, specific subject areas, and country of origin. International students may be eligible for financial awards ranging from £1,000 up to 50% of their tuition fees.
