MA by Research Health and Social Care

Course Overview

The MA by Research Health and Social Care programmes from the University of Lincoln is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in health and social care research. They equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate and apply research evidence within practice and policy context. Throughout the 1-year master's programme, students will receive training in research methods and gain practical, hands-on experience, managing and delivering research projects. They will also  develop insights into contemporary research needs and priorities in health and social care.

As a research-based degree, the MA by Research Health and Social Care programmes from the University of Lincoln does not include formal taught content on the programme. Instead, students will work closely with a carefully selected supervision team that supports them in developing  subject knowledge and research methodologies, in executing their research project.

This programme is assessed by the submission of a written thesis (maximum 25,000 words) and normally an oral examination (viva voce). Students will be examined by two examiners, one internal to the university and one external. Following the oral examination, it may be necessary to undertake some amendments to the thesis in order to completely satisfy the criteria for the award.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their interest in the programme, accompanied by letters of recommendation and official academic transcripts. A relevant academic or employer reference may be requested. 

Applicants are also encouraged to upload a current CV as part of their application to provide evidence of professional experience within the health sector.

Grade Requirements:

Candidates should possess a minimum of an upper second-class honours degree (2:1) or a postgraduate qualification (e.g., master’s degree) in a relevant subject area.

English Language Proficiency:

International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual component below 5.5. Equivalent qualifications may also be considered.

Cost of Study

For international students enrolling in the MA by Research Health and Social Care programmes from the University of Lincoln, the tuition fees are £18,500.
