BEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lincoln is a three-year full-time degree (or four years with the optional paid placement year). It teaches you how to design, build, test, and improve machines, engines, robots, and renewable energy systems.
Teaching includes lectures, small-group tutorials, practical workshops, and lots of lab work in the modern Isaac Newton Building. Students spend a significant amount of time using professional equipment, including 3D printers, CNC machines, wind tunnels, and industry-specific software. Assessment is a mixture of written exams, laboratory reports, design portfolios, individual and group presentations, computer assignments, workshop tasks, and the final-year project.
The degree is fully accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). It provides the academic requirements necessary to become an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and part of the requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status after completing further learning.
