The PhD Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour at the University of Greenwich offers the opportunity to conduct in-depth research into key areas such as employment relations, human resource management, and workplace governance. This research degree focuses on key themes, including equality and pay gaps, workplace ethics, labour standards, sustainability, and the impact of technology on employment. You will also develop advanced research skills through dedicated training in data collection and analysis.
As a research student, you will be part of the Centre for Research on Employment and Work (CREW) and have access to seminars, workshops, and the Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme (PGRDP) to support your academic growth. The programme offers flexible study options, with both full-time and part-time pathways available.
Start dates are available in September/October and January/February, with scholarship opportunities subject to specific deadlines.
Originally established in 1890 as Woolwich Polytechnic, the University of Greenwich has a long history of providing education and vocational training. It later evolved into Thames Polytechnic in 1970 before becoming a full university in 1992.
The university is organised into four faculties: the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Business School, the Faculty of Education, Health & Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering and Science. Each faculty delivers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supported by dedicated academic and support teams.
Students study at one of three campuses—Greenwich, Avery Hill, or Medway—each offering a unique learning atmosphere, excellent resources, and a strong academic network.
A detailed research proposal of approximately 1,500 words, transcripts, and evidence of language proficiency must be submitted with your application.
Grade Requirements:
A taught Master's degree, with a minimum average of 60% in all areas of assessment (e.g. Merit or above), in a generic subject area relevant to the subject matter of the proposed research project, and/or
A First Class or Second Class, First Division (Upper Second Class) Honours degree in a subject area relevant to the proposed research project.
English Proficiency:
International applicants whose first language is not English must achieve an IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual component scoring below 5.5.
International students enrolling in the PhD Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour at the University of Greenwich at the University of Greenwich will need to pay an annual tuition fee of £19,325 for full-time study.
To help students with tuition fees, the University of Greenwich offers a range of scholarships and bursaries. The International Scholarship Award provides a tuition fee reduction of up to £3,500 for first-year international students. To be eligible, applicants must hold an offer from the university, be classified as international for fee purposes, and not be receiving other scholarships.
The International Students Early Confirmation Scholarship is also available for students who accept their offer and pay their deposit on time. Postgraduate students could receive up to £4,000 in support.
