BEng Mechanical Engineering Extended

University of Greenwich

Course overview

The BEng Mechanical Engineering (Extended) at the University of Greenwich is a four-year course. It is a great option if you want to become a professional engineer but need extra time to prepare for university studies. The programme starts with a special preparation year, the Foundation Year, to help you build the necessary knowledge.

The Foundation Year will prepare you completely for the first year of the main mechanical engineering degree. You will study important subjects like project design and planning, professional skills, and an introduction to engineering mathematics. These subjects use a project-based way of learning, which means you will work on real-life tasks. This will help you learn essential skills like working in a team, communicating well, and designing things.

After you successfully finish the Foundation Year, you will join the main three-year Honours degree. You will study how mechanical systems move, the properties of different materials, and how to use electrical and control systems. You will also learn about fluids, heat science (thermodynamics), improving industrial processes, and quality control.

The course is officially approved by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which shows it provides high-quality training for future professional engineers. When you finish studying BEng Mechanical Engineering (Extended) from the University of Greenwich, you will be ready for a career in many important fields, such as car manufacturing, plane building (aerospace), power generation, pharmaceuticals, food manufacturing, and high-value manufacturing industries.
