BEng Computer Engineering
Course overview
The BEng Computer Engineering at the University of Greenwich is a three-year full-time undergraduate degree (or longer if a sandwich/placement year is included). The course runs from the Medway Campus in Kent, giving students a focused engineering environment. In the early years, students learn the fundamentals of computing systems, electronics, digital design, programming, system architecture, engineering mathematics, embedded systems, and networked devices. Over time, the modules progress to focus on real-time systems, robotics, Internet of Things, hardware-software integration, and communication technologies. The course is professionally accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council, meaning that it meets standards required for professional engineer registration.
Students in this course will spend time working in labs, building hardware and software systems, programming embedded devices, and working on major projects that simulate real-world engineering challenges. They will have opportunities for teamwork, design work, testing, and reflection on performance. The course prepares students for engineering roles in computing hardware, systems design, IoT, robotics, and beyond. Students may also decide to continue into postgraduate study. In the final year, students carry out a major engineering project, choose optional modules such as robotics, image processing, cyber-physical systems, and hardware-software integration.
