Course overview

This one-year, full-time Master of Science programme trains students to analyse large-scale genomic data in relation to human health and disease. Genome sequencing is rapidly changing medicine, and this course provides the specialist skills needed in genomics, health, and data analysis. Key topics include gene technologies, bioinformatics, and advanced computational and statistical analysis of biomedical data.

The programme's learning is research-led and features hands-on experience in data analysis and laboratory practicals, using state-of-the-art computational facilities, including a high-performance computing cluster. An important component is a supervised research project, which immerses students in an active research environment. Graduates are equipped to be the next generation of healthcare providers in personalised medicine.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement and provide relevant information about their studies, an academic and/or employer reference and a CV to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates need at least a 2:2 undergraduate degree including at least three modules from relevant subjects, such as Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or Mathematics (including Statistics or Algebra).
  • Other International qualifications equivalent to a degree are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates need to score at least 6.5 overall in the IELTS test, with a minimum of 5.5 in any other component.
  • Other English language test scores, such as PTE Academic and TOEFL IBT tests, are accepted, amongst others.
