MSc Cyber Security
Course overview
The MSc Cyber Security at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is a one-year full-time master’s programme (with a part-time option) that explores how digital threats and protection work in modern life. Students learn about technical tools, societal challenges, legal issues and human factors. The course is meant for those who want to tackle the risks in our connected world. The course is offered both full-time and part-time. This programme starts with core modules that cover fundamentals of cybersecurity, system vulnerabilities, network threats, legal and ethical aspects, and defence strategies.
Students may choose special topics like penetration testing, cryptography or governance. The final part is a major project where students apply what they have learned to real-life issues, supervised by staff at the university. Students learn through lectures, seminars, hands-on labs and workshops. They will do programming, analyse threats, test systems and examine real case studies. Assessments include written exams, lab assignments, coursework, project work and the final dissertation or project. This mix ensures that learning is both theoretical and practical.
