MEng Mechanical Engineering With Year in Industry

University of East Anglia UEA

Course overview

The MEng Mechanical Engineering with Year in Industry at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation and valuable real-world experience. The programme begins by developing core knowledge in mathematics and circuitry before progressing to hands-on work with analogue, digital, and microcomputer systems. Students also gain experience with industry-standard software, professional engineering skills, manufacturing techniques, advanced data communications, and independent research through a major practical project.

In the first year, students follow an integrated engineering programme that builds essential knowledge, technical skills, and industrial awareness. From the second year onwards, the focus shifts to mechanical engineering specialisms, including solid and fluid mechanics, control systems, thermodynamics, as well as design and manufacturing.

A key feature of this course is the Year in Industry. During the third year, students undertake a paid industrial placement with a company related to their engineering interests. This year of professional experience gives graduates a competitive edge before they return to university to complete their final year of study.
