BEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The BEng Mechanical Engineering at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is a three-year, full-time undergraduate degree that provides students with a strong foundation in how machines, structures, and engineering systems work and how they are designed.
The programme covers core mechanical engineering principles including mechanics, thermodynamics, control systems, materials, and manufacturing. In the final year, students complete a major individual engineering project, where they apply their technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to a real engineering challenge.
Teaching is delivered through lectures, laboratories, workshops, and design studios. Students work on both team-based and individual projects, use industry-relevant software tools, build prototypes, and carry out testing. Assessment includes written examinations, coursework, laboratory reports, design assignments, and the final-year project, ensuring a strong balance between theory and practical experience. The course is accredited by professional bodies such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), supporting progression towards professional engineer status.
