MSci Nursing Dual Award Adult and Child

University of Derby

Course overview

The MSci Nursing Dual Award (Adult and Child) at the University of Derby is a full-time four-year programme. The course leads to a Masters-level award and allows registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in both adult and children’s nursing. The programme helps students gain the knowledge, clinical skills and professional behaviours to care for both adult and child patients in a variety of health and care settings.

The early years focus on foundational nursing theory, anatomy, physiology, safe care and professional values. As the course progresses, students alternate between theory blocks and clinical placements. Year four includes advanced modules to consolidate learning in the second field of practice and develop leadership, decision-making and service improvement in nursing.

Learning methods include lectures, seminars, simulation labs, workshops and supervised placement work. Students practise nursing tasks, communication with patients and families, and care planning in both adult and children’s settings. Assessment includes written exams, case studies, reflective portfolios, practical skills tests, presentations and placement feedback.
