BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Foundation Year
Course overview
The University of Derby has developed this 4-year BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Foundation Year programme for students who have not completed a traditional foundation course or who do not have the direct entry requirements to go on to degree level, but who know which subject they wish to study. This course is the first stage of a bachelor's degree; it is not a standalone course.
Following the successful completion of the year, students will then progress on to the first year of the appropriate degree. This BEng degree has an optional year in industry and covers both electrical engineering, where electricity is used to transport and deliver energy, and electronic engineering, where electricity can be used to process, transmit, and store information.
Entry requirements
Grade Requirements:
- UCAS Tariff: International students are required to score 72 points
- Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - MMP
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS: International students are required to score an overall maximum of 6.0, with at least 5.5 in each band: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

The 25% alumni discount is available if you graduated in the academic years 2023/24 or 2024/25 and are fully enrolled on a postgraduate programme by July 2026.
Biomedical Science Excellence Scholarship
Two awards of £1,000 are available, and will be awarded as a tuition fee reduction in the second semester. Each recipient will also be allocated up to £500 to use to attend a conference.
