BSc Occupational Therapy

Course Overview

The BSc Occupational Therapy at the University of Bedfordshire is a three-year degree. This course gives students the knowledge and skills to become a registered occupational therapist. It combines simulations, role-play, lab work, and practice placements so students can help people live fuller lives. The course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. Students complete over 1,000 hours of practice placement in places like hospitals, schools, or care settings across the region.

Year 1 offers students a strong start by teaching anatomy, physiology, psychology, and sociology. Students also learn how to build therapeutic relationships and do a 10-week placement to practise skills in real-world settings. In Year 2, students spend two more placements, working as part of health teams and learning patient assessment and intervention. Year 3 brings advanced learning in caring for people with physical and mental health issues, clinical reasoning, leadership, and a research project. Students are taught using role-play, simulations, and practical sessions.

Assessment includes coursework, observations in placement, and a final project that blends research, policy, and practice.
