FdSc Computer Science
Course overview
The FdSc Computer Science at University College Birmingham introduces students to foundational computing knowledge and skills, leading to modules in programming, computer mathematics, web development, databases, networking, and basic cybersecurity. The course is designed to prepare students either for further study — such as a “top-up” to a BSc — or to enter junior roles in the IT industry.
Assessment focuses on coursework, projects, and lab work rather than heavily relying on exams. An optional paid 48-week work placement is available to help students gain real-world practical experience and enhance employability.
