MEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The MEng Mechanical Engineering programme at Swansea University trains students in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of machines, systems, and mechanical devices. It covers the entire lifecycle of engineering projects—from concept and analysis to manufacturing, operation, and maintenance—with a strong focus on sustainability. Students gain a solid foundation in mathematics, mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, and dynamics, before progressing to advanced topics such as simulation, additive manufacturing, reliability, power generation systems, and business leadership. The course is designed to prepare graduates for professional engineering roles and meets accreditation standards for chartered engineer status.
The programme is delivered at the Bay Campus, which houses state-of-the-art facilities including fluid and dynamics laboratories, digital manufacturing units, and robotics labs. The MEng runs for four years full-time, extendable to five years with a Year Abroad or Year in Industry. Students begin with fundamentals in mechanics, materials, thermofluids, and manufacturing. Learning is delivered through lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, design workshops, and project work. Assessment includes coursework, lab reports, design projects, exams, and group assignments.
