LLB Business Law in Practice

Swansea University

Course overview

This is not just any law degree; the four-year LLB Business Law in Practice is a specialised undergraduate course that is perfect for students aiming for a career in commercial or business law. Students will get a solid foundation in all the core legal knowledge they need to become professionals. What is great is that students can also pick modules that focus on areas they care about, like trade law, competition law, and commercial sales.

The main attraction of this programme is the paid internship in a legal environment during the third year, which gives students crucial, real-world experience and professional skills. Students' learning will be delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and workshops, and boosted by practical opportunities like the excellent Law Clinic, where students can practise advising real clients. They will be assessed through a variety of methods, including written examinations, coursework, mock courtroom advocacy, and the preparation of legal reports.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • The usual offer for this undergraduate degree is based on A-Level grades from AAB to BBB, or an equivalent score of 96 to 136 UCAS Tariff points.
  • The university also happily considers alternative qualifications like the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, where they typically look for around 32 points. Either way, applicants need to show that they have a strong academic history.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not the applicant's first language, they need to score at least 6.0 overall in the IELTS Academic test, and no part of the test (like reading or writing) should be lower than 5.5.
  • Applicants can also submit equivalent scores from other approved English language tests, but these results must still be valid when the course begins.
