BSc Sport and Exercise Science
Course overview
This course offers a complete insight into sport and exercise performance by concentrating on the scientific areas of physiology, psychology, and biomechanics. The programme bridges academic knowledge with essential practical skills, ensuring all students are fully prepared for careers in high-performance sports settings. Students work with high-quality, specialist equipment, including a certified physiology lab and modern biomechanics and psychology laboratories, which significantly support their learning.
Students' work is assessed using a variety of methods designed to help them build core professional skills, such as communicating scientific findings and managing their own research projects. They will complete assignments including practical tasks, writing laboratory reports, analysing case studies, creating short videos, and giving presentations. The standard degree takes three years to complete, but students have the option to extend this by adding a preliminary foundation year or a practical work placement year in the industry for greater experience.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement where they can discuss their reasons for applying and any relevant experience. An academic or employer reference is also required. While not always mandatory, students have the option to upload a CV along with their application to show their work experience.
Grade Requirements:
- The standard offer for direct entry to the degree is to achieve 104–120 UCAS tariff points, typically from a minimum of two A-levels or an equivalent qualification such as a BTEC Extended Diploma at DMM.
- Applicants must also hold a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, Science, and English. Alternatively, a different set of qualifications will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant work experience in the sports or health sector.
English Proficiency:

- This is met by achieving a minimum overall score of 6.0 in the IELTS Academic test, with no score below 5.5 in any of the individual components, or by submitting an equivalent secured English language test (SELT) score.
- The University provides a pre-sessional English programme for those who need further help to meet the required standard.
