MSc Computing Work Experience
Course overview
The MSc Computing (Work Experience) at Sheffield Hallam University is taught around a professional software development lifecycle, helping students develop both the technical and professional skills needed in the industry. Students will undertake applied projects while being fully supported throughout their learning. This programme provides students with a strong understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of computing with an emphasis on programming, algorithms, and data structures.
Students will begin by learning foundational computing skills, the software development lifecycle, and specialisations in advanced software development or data management. They will also explore AI and machine learning, using programming to create solutions for businesses. This includes an understanding of ethical and responsible AI use, which is especially important in recognising data solutions.
They will have the opportunity to secure a work placement for up to 12 months, where they will apply academic theory and their skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance their professional development and help them make informed career choices after graduation.
During the placement, they will be supported to reflect on their experience and contribution to the organisation they work for. They also share their progress and achievements with their Placement Academic Supervisor as part of their final assessment.
