BSc Applied Biomedical Science

Robert Gordon University

Course overview

This degree teaches students about the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases, preparing students for a career role in healthcare. It includes a special laboratory training programme that gives them hands-on experience in all major hospital lab areas, such as checking blood for transfusions, identifying infections, and screening cells for cancer. The course is designed to get students ready for a successful career as a registered professional.

Students will learn through lectures, time in the lab, and smaller group teaching (tutorials). All the things students need for the course are online using Moodle. Most importantly, this course has mandatory work placements built right in, which happen in NHS laboratories. They'll spend seven weeks on placement in Year 2 and another fourteen weeks in Year 3. These placements are a must to complete the training they need to register as a professional with the HCPC and the IBMS.
