BEng Mechanical Engineering with foundation year

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year is a four-year programme, extendable to five years with an optional work experience year. This course provides a solid foundation in mechanical engineering, covering mathematics, fluid dynamics, design, mechanics, electrical engineering, and materials science.

The foundation year equips students with the skills necessary to succeed in the degree, and the programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, ensuring alignment with professional industry standards.

Students learn key engineering skills through modules on engineering science and scientific principles while benefitting from access to advanced facilities such as virtual engineering labs and 3D printing technology.

Grade Requirements:

• 64 UCAS Tariff points.
• GCSE Mathematics at grade C (or grade 4 and above under the reformed system).
• Consideration is also given to relevant skills, work experience, and mitigating circumstances that may have impacted academic performance.

English Proficiency:

• IELTS Academic: overall 6.0, minimum 5.5 in each component.
• TOEFL iBT: overall 80, with component-specific minimum scores.
• Pearson PTE Academic: overall 59, with at least 59 in each component.

For the 2025/26 academic year, the tuition fee for international students on the BEng Mechanical Engineering (with Foundation Year) course is £15,500 per year.
