The two-year, full-time MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy course takes an integrated approach, combining person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and psychodynamic frameworks. Students attend classes one day per week and learn through practical exercises, collaborative projects, and self-reflection. The first year explores different counselling methods, while the second focuses on building therapeutic relationships and includes a research dissertation.
The course prepares students for professional practice by requiring them to complete 100 supervised client contact hours in a work placement, with support from a placement coordinator. Assessment methods are varied, including oral presentations, case formulations, written assignments, and practical skills evaluations.
Graduates who complete the course and their client hours are eligible to apply for British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) membership.
