BSc Dietetics

Course Overview

The BSc Dietetics degree at London Metropolitan University is a three-year course that trains students to become qualified dietitians. Students learn to assess, diagnose, and treat nutrition-related issues for individuals and communities. The course covers public health, food science, metabolism, clinical nutrition, and disease prevention. Students gain hands-on experience in labs and kitchens. They also complete three full-time placements with NHS partners. Upon successful completion, students can apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Students learn dietary assessment and nutrition care plans. During the final year, students are required to conduct a research project to showcase their understanding of everything they have been taught. This course is aligned with HCPC standards and BDA accreditation. Learning is through lectures, seminars, lab sessions, and workshops in nutrition labs. Students also take part in group work and presentations. They are assessed through essays, tests, lab reports, OSCEs (practical skills checks), and a final research project.
