BSc Biomedical Science

The BSc Biomedical Science degree at London Metropolitan University is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the biomedical sciences, focusing on the study of human diseases, their diagnosis, and treatment. This course covers a wide range of topics including human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, immunology and pharmacology. Students learn both theoretical and laboratory skills, including the use of equipment such as electrophoresis and a spectrophotometer. The third year includes an independent research project, allowing you to specialise.

The programme also includes opportunities for work placements, research opportunities, and collaboration with industry partners, allowing students to gain practical experience and build connections in the field. The degree is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and meets the academic competencies required by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Students are taught using a combination of lectures and lab work. Assessments are carried out through coursework (reports, presentations), exams, group work and practical reports.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants need a minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points from 3 A-levels (including Biology or Human Biology, plus at least one other science subject such as Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Psychology).
• English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

English Proficiency:

• The typical requirement is an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all skill components.
• Other equivalent English qualifications are also accepted.
