BSc Biotechnology with Foundation Year

Course Overview

The BSc (Hons) Biotechnology with Foundation Year teaches students how living organisms or cells can be used to make new products that benefit humans and improve living standards. This course deals with fermentation and genetic engineering to create the latest medicines, which can be used in the treatment of diseases, increase plants' lifespan, and enhance manufacturing processes.

In this programme, students learn how different parts of living organisms, and some which are fossils (dead remains after millions of years), could be used to create products using technology. Some of these products include vaccines and insulin, GMO crops like soybeans, and fermented foods like pawpaw, which can be used to reduce ulcer pains. This course is for students who want to use biology to solve problems and contribute meaningfully to society.

Learning in this course is through lectures, seminars, conferences, and industry visits. Assessment methods include internship placements, examinations, periodic tests, and laboratory sessions.
