MSc Cancer Biology

Course Overview

The Kingston University MSc Cancer Biology is designed for students interested in the biological processes of cancer and is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), giving students practical laboratory experience with specialist equipment. The coursework gives an understanding of the process of the disease and the scientific basis for treatment options. 

The course content covers scientific research methods and techniques used in cellular and molecular biology and pathology, with topics such as tumour biology, immunology, and haematological malignancy. Students complete a research project, which can be a valuable asset for future work.

Students’ progress is assessed through exams, practical work, and coursework, which includes essays, reports, and a final dissertation. Core subjects include "Research Techniques and Scientific Communication", "Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy", "Immunology and the Biology of Disease", and "Cellular and Molecular Biology of Cancer". Students also take a capstone research project worth 60 credits, where they can apply their knowledge in a real-world setting and also offer an optional 12-month professional work placement.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Candidates must submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and optionally, a CV to give a picture of their work experience.

Grade Requirements 

  • Applicants need at least a second-class honours degree in subjects such as Biomedical Science, Biology, or a related medical field. 
  • The university also accepts applicants without a degree if they have professional work experience.

English Proficiency 

  • Applicants need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS, with no section below 6.0. 
  • PTE and TOEFL are accepted.
  • Pre-sessional English language courses are available for those who do not meet the direct requirement.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students in the 2025/26 academic year is £20,000. 

Scholarships

Kingston University offers several scholarships and discounts, including the Inspire the Future Scholarship, which provides a 40% fee reduction for taught master's or postgraduate diploma courses starting in September, limited to 20 scholarships for progressing Kingston University graduates. International postgraduate students may receive up to £5,000 towards tuition fees in their first year through International Scholarships. Additionally, Kingston University undergraduates advancing to a postgraduate degree in 2025/26 are eligible for a 15% tuition fee reduction through the Progression Scholarship. Furthermore, Kingston University alumni can receive a 10% discount on full and part-time postgraduate degree course tuition fees.
