BEng Robotics, Autonomous and Interactive Systems

The BEng Robotics, Autonomous and Interactive Systems at Heriot-Watt University is a course for students who want to help create the future of robotics. It combines three important subjects: electronics, computer software, and mechanical systems. You will learn how to build smart machines that can think and move.

In your first three years, you will study all three areas and learn how to design, build, and test robots. In your final year, you can either continue to study all areas or focus on one part that interests you the most.

Heriot-Watt University is a respected university with a long history and international reputation. It was first started in 1821 as an institute and became a full university in 1966. The university is named after two famous Scottish people, James Watt, an engineer and inventor, and George Heriot, a goldsmith and helper of people in need during the 1500s.

To apply for the BEng Robotics, Autonomous and Interactive Systems at Heriot-Watt University, you will need one of the following qualifications:

Grade Requirements:

• A-Levels: BBC to ABB. You must have Mathematics and either Physics or Electronics, both at grade B.
• International Baccalaureate (IB): Minimum of 29 points. You must study both Mathematics and Physics at Higher Level, with a minimum score of 5 in each.
• BTEC Extended Diploma: Grade DMM in a science-related subject. Your qualification must include enough Mathematics and Physics content.

English Proficiency: 

• If your first language is not English, proof of proficiency is required. The minimum requirement for this programme is an IELTS score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each of the four components. 
• If you do not meet this requirement, you may register for the university’s English language courses.

For the 2025/2026 academic session, the tuition fee to study the BEng in Robotics, Autonomous and Interactive Systems at Heriot-Watt University is £28,008. Kindly note that fees are paid annually and are, therefore, subject to change.

Heriot-Watt University offers different scholarships and financial support to help international students with their education. One of the main options is the International Merit Scholarship.

This scholarship is for international students who pay full tuition fees and are starting their studies in September 2025. It gives a discount on first-year tuition fees, and the amount you receive depends on your home country.

The university has set aside £500,000 for this scholarship. It is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
