Course Overview

The BEng Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering at Heriot-Watt University is a four-year course that helps you understand the key ideas in mechanical engineering and energy systems. It also teaches you how to create better and more sustainable ways to produce and use energy.

You will study useful topics like thermodynamics, renewable energy, environmental impact, fluid mechanics, electrical systems, and materials. You will learn how to design systems such as turbines, heat pumps, and technology used in aircraft and hospitals.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Grade Requirements: 

To apply for this course, you need any of the following qualifications: 

  • A-Levels: BBC to ABB. You must have both Maths and Physics at grade B.
  • International Baccalaureate: A total of 29 points. You must have both Maths and Physics at a Higher Level with a grade of 5 in each.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: Grade DMM. The diploma must be in a relevant engineering subject and include enough Maths and Physics content.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English are required to show a level of proficiency in English by obtaining an IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5.

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic session, the tuition fee to study the BEng Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering at Heriot-Watt University is £25,008. Please note that tuition fees are provisional and, therefore, subject to change.

Scholarships

Heriot-Watt University offers many scholarships and financial support to help international students who work hard and want to succeed in their studies. One of the main scholarships is called the International Merit Scholarship. This scholarship gives a total of £500,000 to international students who will start their studies in January or September 2025.
