BEng Mechanical Engineering

Course Overview

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University is a full-time undergraduate degree accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). The programme combines theory and hands-on learning to help students design and build mechanical systems, with the option to specialise in either Design or Systems Engineering. Core areas of study include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, control systems, manufacturing, and computer-aided design (CAD) using finite element analysis (FEA) tools.

Students are assessed through coursework, technical reports, presentations and an honours project. The programme includes a 48-week industry placement and an optional Erasmus exchange, giving students real-world engineering experience. Graduates go on to work in sectors such as aerospace, energy, transport and manufacturing.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Applicants should submit a personal statement explaining their interest in the course, along with an academic or employer reference, with an option to upload a CV to show any relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates for Year 1 entry need A Levels CCC, BTEC National Extended Diploma MMM, or Scottish Highers BBCC, including Mathematics and a Science/Technology subject.
  • For Advanced Entry Year 2, applicants need an HNC in Mechanical Engineering with a grade B in the Graded Unit, including Engineering Maths 1–4. 
  • Applicants for Year 3 entry need an HND in Mechanical Engineering with a grade B in Graded Units, including Engineering Maths 1–5. 

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must have an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section.
  • An Equivalent Secure English Language Test (SELT) scores are also accepted.

Cost of Study

International students pay tuition fees of £15,200 per year for the BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme.

Scholarships

Glasgow Caledonian University offers International Merit Scholarships worth up to £3,000 for eligible international students.
