Course Overview

The BSc Software Engineering at Edge Hill University is a practical and modern programme that teaches students how to design, build, and maintain high-quality software systems. This course focuses on both technical and professional skills, helping students become capable software engineers who can solve real-world problems. Accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, the programme is structured to develop students’ understanding of key software engineering principles. It includes hands-on modules in mobile app development, databases, user experience (UX), web programming, and cloud computing. Students will also learn how to work in teams, manage software projects, and meet client needs. The course is designed to prepare graduates for both industry jobs and further academic study. Also, the optional placement year gives students hands-on work experience and helps improve employability.

Learning takes place through lectures, tutorials, group work, and practical lab sessions. Students are assessed through a mix of coursework, projects, presentations, and exams. One of the highlights is the final-year project, where students design and develop a software solution of their choice, showcasing everything they have learned. This helps build confidence and enhances their portfolio.
