MSc Food Science Technology

Course Overview

This Master's degree provides professional education by combining theory and hands-on experience in food science and technology. The programme offers two specialist routes: Food Innovation & Development or Food Safety Management. Students also benefit from a close association with the university's renowned ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre.

This course will give students advanced professional, research, and problem-solving skills needed for the worldwide food industry. Students will learn through methods like lectures, classes (seminars), and hands-on practical sessions. They will be assessed with professional tasks such as written work, case studies, and a final research project. The full-time course takes 15 months and gives students the option of completing a practical industry placement.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience and relevant background. Applicants are also asked to complete a pre-offer task to further explain their motivations for study.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least an Upper Second-Class Honours degree (2:1) in a relevant science or technology subject.
  • Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student can demonstrate relevant industrial or professional experience in a related discipline.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to provide evidence of fluency to at least an Academic IELTS 6.0 standard, with no score lower than 5.5 in any of the four sections.
  • Equivalent English language qualifications may also be accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for this MSc programme for international students is £17,600.

Scholarships

The university offers financial support to international postgraduate students. This includes the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship, which provides up to £3,500 as a tuition fee reduction. Additionally, students can receive a further Fee Discount of up to £1,000 if they pay their total fee in full by the stipulated deposit deadline.
