BSc Psychology with Foundation Year

The BSc Psychology with Foundation Year at Birkbeck University, London is a four-year degree. The first year is a foundation year. After that, the student moves into the standard BSc (Hons) in Psychology. The course studies how people think, feel, and behave, as individuals, in groups, and in social settings. Areas include biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology. The school behind the course is the School of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck. In the foundation year, core modules cover basics, such as study skills, research methods, foundations of psychology, developmental and social psychology, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, individual differences, and more. 

After the foundation year, the standard BSc runs for three more years. In the final years, the student can follow different pathways, including general Psychology, Psychology with Neuroscience, Psychology with Child Development, or Psychology in Practice. The BSc Psychology (with or without foundation) at Birkbeck is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). This helps qualify for future training or professional work in psychology. Students are taught using lectures and small-group practical classes, especially in research methods modules. Assessment includes coursework, practical tasks, assignments, and a final project or dissertation in the final year.
