PhD Organic Electronics

Bangor University

Course overview

This PhD Organic Electronics at Bangor University is a fantastic research degree that usually takes three years of full-time study and involves work in the special area of Organic Electronics. The main research goal is to create new monomers and polymers to be used in various types of electronic devices.

Research also covers making polymer devices (like polymer MISFETs, Schottky diodes, and LEDs) and then testing their electrical and optical properties. Because this is a research degree, students are assessed by submitting a major written paper (thesis or dissertation) and defending it in a final spoken test (oral examination or viva voce).

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a research proposal outlining their planned area of study, along with a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and outline other relevant information regarding their studies, interests, and experiences. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required to support the application. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least an Upper Second-class Honours degree or an equivalent qualification in fields such as Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.

  • Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant research experience in a physical science or engineering area.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS (with no part below 6.0) or submit equivalent Secure English Language Test (SELT) scores to meet the necessary language requirements.
