PhD Ageing and Dementia Studies
Course overview
The PhD Ageing & Dementia Studies at Bangor University is offered through the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC)/“Ageing & Dementia@Bangor” research group. The programme centres on independent research into dementia and ageing. Students explore social, psychological, and cultural aspects of ageing, dementia care, resilience, mental health, and wellbeing across varied settings, including home, community, hospitals, and care homes.
Research is supervised by experienced staff from the Bangor Institute of Health and Medical Research (BIHMR), benefiting from strong links with health and social care providers. The final output is a thesis of up to 100,000 words, which may follow a traditional “narrative” structure or a “four-paper” format suitable for journal publication.
