Why Bangladeshi Students Should Consider Chevening for Studying in the UK

What is the Chevening Scholarship?

Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, the Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme that aims to support future leaders, policymakers, and influencers.

Since its launch in 1983, the programme has supported nearly 60,000 scholars from around the world with comprehensive funding with the aim of producing and promoting leaders across the fields.

Why Chevening?

Getting a fully funded Master's degree in the UK significantly removes the financial burden of international study. But the real value? The network, the mentorship, and the access to global platforms. Chevening gives you all of it.

You'll be trained in a country with some of the best universities in the world, alongside future decision-makers from over 160 countries. You'll grow your expertise, build international connections, and return to Bangladesh ready to lead change.

What's covered?

  • Full tuition fees at a UK university
  • Monthly living allowance
  • Economy-class return flights
  • Visa application costs + TB test reimbursement
  • Arrival and departure allowances
  • Exclusive access to Chevening events, training sessions, and leadership workshops

And above all, you become part of an elite global network of over
55,000 Chevening alumni — including politicians, CEOs, researchers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers.

Who's eligible for the Chevening scholarship?

This isn't for just anyone. Chevening is looking for future leaders with a clear vision and real commitment.

You must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country (Bangladesh is eligible).
  • Commit to returning to Bangladesh for at least two years after graduation.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 honours degree. For Bangladeshi students, this typically means a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, a high second-class division, or a grade of 60-65% depending on your university's grading system.
  • Have at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience including full-time, part-time, paid, unpaid, or voluntary work.
  • Apply to three eligible UK university courses (Master's degrees) and secure at least one unconditional offer for one of these courses by the specified Chevening deadline.

What you'll need to prepare

Your application must reflect your goals, your leadership story, your impact.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • Passport or national ID
  • English language test results (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE)
  • Two strong academic or professional references.
  • Updated CV/resume
  • Four personal essays (leadership, networking, study in the UK, career plan)

The UK university offer is critical and it must be unconditional by the Chevening deadline.
