BEng Engineering Design and Manufacture Mechanical

The BEng Engineering Design and Manufacture (Mechanical) at Heriot-Watt University develops expertise in engineering design, manufacturing engineering, engineering consultancy, and engineering operations management. It is designed for individuals who seek a thorough foundation in mechanical engineering principles and their practical applications.

The course covers key areas such as engineering design and manufacturing principles, including manufacturing with materials, product design, computer-aided design and analysis, and mechanical design principles. Business and management topics, such as supply chain management and organisational behaviour, are also integrated.

The teaching is delivered through a hybrid-flexible model of online and campus sessions; the assessment combines project work, coursework, exams and reflective workplace portfolios.  Practical elements basically involve Students spending 80 % of their time in the workplace and 20 % on academic modules.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants typically require BBC at A Level, which should include Mathematics and Physics or similar subjects in the relevant field​.
• Alternatively, any relevant international equivalent qualifications are considered.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants who do not speak English as their first language need an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of  5.5 in each component. The university provides pre‑sessional English courses if needed.
• Alternatively, equivalent English tests such as PTE and TOEFL are also accepted.

This graduate apprenticeship is fully funded, with no tuition fee charged to students or employers, supported by Skills Development Scotland.

Heriot-Watt University offers scholarships to international students to support international students financially. International students may apply for the International Merit Scholarship when they meet the required eligibility criteria.
