BEng Mechanical Engineering

The BEng Mechanical Engineering degree provides students with essential engineering knowledge and skills across key areas such as thermodynamics, mechanics of machines, and manufacturing processes. Students will engage with modern engineering technologies including computer-aided design (CAD) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to gain hands-on technical experience.

This programme prepares students for professional careers in fields such as design, manufacturing, and process management. Students are also encouraged to undertake an optional year-long industrial placement between their second and final year to gain valuable real-world experience.

Learning takes place through a combination of lectures, seminars, lab work, group projects, and independent study. Assessment methods include examinations and practical projects, complemented by continuous feedback to enhance understanding and skill development.

The University of Sunderland is a public institution located in the North East of England, founded in 1901. Grade Requirements:

• 96–112 UCAS points, achieved through A-levels, Scottish Highers, T Levels, or equivalent qualifications.
• Equivalent international qualifications to A-levels are accepted.
• GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).

English Proficiency:

• IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no component below 5.5.
• Other accepted tests include PTE Academic and Cambridge Assessment English.

The tuition fee for international students enrolled in the BEng Mechanical Engineering programme at the University of Sunderland is £16,500 per year, subject to annual review.

The University of Sunderland provides several scholarships and discounts to support international undergraduate students. The Global Leaders Scholarship offers a £5,000 reduction in tuition fees per year for eligible students, which is automatically applied and stated in the conditional offer letter. However, applicants from certain regions, such as East Asia, the Gulf States, and Europe, are typically not eligible.

Other awards include the International Scholarship or general Fee Reduction, which grants a £1,400 discount on first-year tuition fees. Additionally, Region-Specific Scholarships are available, such as those for students from Africa, offering up to £5,000 per year, similar to the Global Leaders Scholarship.
