MEng Product Design Engineering
Course overview
The MEng Product Design Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is a programme that prepares you for a career as an innovative product designer. It is a programme that is all about learning how to design products that look good, work effectively, meet user needs, and can be manufactured efficiently. In this course, you will be trained to tackle real-world challenges in industries like consumer electronics, medical devices, transportation, and sustainable design.
This is an integrated master’s degree that takes you further into advanced topics than the BEng route. You will study specialist areas more than the BEng and work on complex projects that prepare you for leadership and management roles in design and engineering.
Students on the programme also benefit from industry placements, international study exchanges, and design competitions, which allow you to showcase your skills and gain valuable experience. You will learn through a combination of lectures, design studios, workshops, and group projects, many of which are like professional design processes.
Entry requirements
To apply, submit a personal statement that showcases your passion for product design engineering and details your academic background. A reference from a teacher or employer is required, and a CV highlighting relevant experience.
Grade Requirements
- Applicants require AAA at A Level (including Maths and Physics) or AAAAB at Scottish Highers (with Maths and Physics/Design & Manufacture at A).
- For Year 2 advanced entry, A*AA at A Level (Maths A, Physics A) or A1A1A2A2 at Higher (Maths A1, Physics A1) is required.
- International Baccalaureate applicants need 36 points, with HL6 in Maths and Physics.
- Equivalent international qualifications are accepted—contact Strathclyde for specifics.
English Proficiency
- Non-native English speakers need an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5.
- Other tests like TOEFL or PTE are accepted—check the university’s website for specific scores.
