MEng Civil Environmental Engineering

Course Overview

The MEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is a five-year course. It is an undergraduate course from which students graduate with a master's degree. Students can start in their first or second year and will have the opportunity to study abroad in their third or fifth year.

The programme combines civil engineering (such as building bridges, roads, and structures) with environmental engineering (including water supply, pollution control, and waste management). The programme is accredited by professional bodies such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers.

Students learn through lectures, tutorials, seminars, individual and group projects, lab work, field work, and case studies. Assessment is through exams and coursework, lab reports, and design submissions.

Entry Requirements for Indian Students

International students who want to study MEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde must submit a transcript or a certificate of their previous educational qualification. They also need a passport and a personal statement.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants should have an A or a B in Maths and any science subject in high school or secondary school qualification (called Highers in Scotland) or its equivalent in your country (i.e., AAAA / AAABB (Maths A OR Maths B & 1 Science at A or B).
  • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate will need 36-32 points with HL5 in Maths and a science subject to start year one and 38-34 points (with Maths HL6 & 1 science subject HL6) to start year two.

English Proficiency:

  • International applicants must demonstrate a minimum overall score of 6.0 in the IELTS English language test.
  • Those who do not meet the English requirement can take any of the English language preparatory courses.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students to study MEng Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is £29,350 every year. This fee can be reviewed yearly, and there can be additional costs.

Scholarships

The Faculty of Engineering International Scholarship is one of the scholarships available for international students. It gives 10% off students’ tuition. Other available funding includes the Housing Support Fund and Emergency Aid Fund.
