BA Business
Course overview
The BA (Hons) Business at the University of Strathclyde is a four-year course that provides students with a broad foundation in business and management. It begins with introductory modules in Year 1 that cover the basics, including accounting, economics, business enterprise, marketing, and finance. Students build skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication through projects and real-world situations. In later years, students can specialise in two business subjects of choice (joint or single honours). Strathclyde also conducts a Management Development Programme for the first three years, helping students develop practical business skills. The degree is run by Strathclyde Business School, which is triple-accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA).
The full-time programme lasts 4 years. Year 4 is the honours year. In Year 1, students take core business modules including the Management Development Programme. They study a range of subjects to see which areas they like best. In Years 2 and 3, students choose two business subjects to specialise in (for example, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management) or a joint honours with a non-business subject. Learning is through lectures, seminars, workshops, group projects, case studies, and guest lectures. Assessments include exams, coursework, group assignments, presentations, portfolios, and a final project or dissertation in the Honours year.
