BSc Learning Disabilities Nursing and Social Work Integrated Practice

University of Salford

Course overview

This innovative 3-year BSc Learning Disabilities Nursing and Social Work (Integrated Practice) at the University of Salford provides students with the unique opportunity to qualify as both a nurse (learning disabilities) and a social worker (generic). Through this dual qualification, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to work across a range of health and social care settings, particularly with individuals with learning disabilities. Placements in diverse social care environments will also prepare students to meet the requirements for a generic social work qualification.

The BSc Learning Disabilities Nursing and Social Work (Integrated Practice) from the University of Salford acknowledges that people with learning disabilities may have both health and social care needs that require varying levels of support and intervention. The focus is on empowering, enabling, and promoting independence for individuals to address these needs within their communities. Half of the time will be spent by students on placements, guided by experienced practitioners; these placements will allow students to apply the theories of nursing and social work to real-world practice.
