Course Overview

The PhD Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Lincoln lasts 2-4 years if studied full-time or 3-8 years if studied part-time. During the programme, students will conduct their independent research with guidance from experienced supervisors. The two main areas of focus are Drug Discovery, Design, and Delivery, as well as Clinical Pharmacy and Practice.

Students are evaluated based on the quality of their research thesis and how well they present their research topic during an oral examination. Some students may have opportunities to conduct research in other countries or visit laboratories to use specialised equipment and learn new techniques.

Entry Requirements

  • Students are required to choose a research topic that truly interests them, and afterwards, they should contact professors or academic supervisors whose research aligns with their chosen area.
  • Applicants are also required to submit two references along with a research proposal. The proposal should be limited to a maximum of 5,000 words, excluding the references.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates should hold a first-class or upper second-class honours degree, as well as a Master's degree.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.0 on the IELTS test, ensuring that they do not score below 5.5 in any individual skill area. 
  • Other accepted tests for English proficiency include TOEFL IBT and Cambridge English Advanced. 
  • If students do not meet these requirements, they have the option to enroll in pre-sessional English courses to enhance their language skills before commencing their main studies.

Cost of Study

International students enrolling in the University of Lincoln PhD Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science should expect a tuition fee of £18,500 per year. For those who are in Thesis Pending status, an extra charge of £2,700 will be incurred. Please be aware that these fees pertain to the 2025/26 academic year and are subject to change in the future.

Scholarships

The University of Lincoln has various scholarships to support students with their financial needs. One scholarship is the Lincoln Alumni MSc Social Work Scholarship. This scholarship gives £1,000 every year to students who completed their bachelor's degree at the university and are now studying for a master's degree in Social Work.

Another scholarship is the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship, which fully covers tuition fees for one year for students coming from the university’s partner institutions abroad. Additionally, the Global Leaders Scholarship, which is open to international students, provides a 50% discount on tuition fees for one year of study.
