MSc by Research Forensic Science

Course Overview

This course is designed to give students top-notch research skills. The students gain opportunities to work alongside other disciplines to work on innovative methods to solve crime and assist investigations.

During the MSc by Research Forensic Science programme at the University of Lincoln, students receive research training to assist them in their independent investigations. At the same time, they participate in ongoing research projects such as DNA analysis in forensic and archaeological contexts and many others.

In the course of this programme, students learn through a combination of independent study and research. However, students will have meetings with their academic supervisors. Assessment methods include the quality of a student's thesis and an oral examination (viva voce).

Grade Requirements

Applicants need a first-class or second-class honours degree in a relevant field. Students with a lower second-class degree may be considered for an interview.

English Proficiency

Non-native English speakers may need to demonstrate proficiency in the language, typically through an IELTS score of at least 6.0. TOEFL or other equivalents are also allowed.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee (2025/2026) to study MSc by Research Forensic Science at the University of Lincoln is £18,500. However, research students may pay additional fees for specialist resources and equipment to support their projects.
