BEng Mechatronics
Course overview
The BEng Mechatronics at the University of Lincoln is a three-year full-time degree (or four years with the optional paid placement). It combines mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer programming to create smart machines like robots, drones, and automated systems.
You start straight away with practical work such as building circuits, programming microcontrollers, designing sensors, and making robots move. Main topics include embedded systems, control engineering, artificial intelligence, mechanics, electronics, and automation.
Teaching uses lectures, small tutorials, workshops, and lots of lab time in the Isaac Newton Building. Students spend many hours each week using robotics kits, 3D printers, oscilloscopes, PLCs, and industry software.
Assessment includes lab reports, practical tests, programming assignments, group and individual presentations, design portfolios, written exams and the final-year project. Marks come from both coursework and exams.
The degree is fully accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). It meets the full academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and is part of the requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
